FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

What does the Aquaware Starter Kit actually measure?

The Starter Kit measures the two most important stability parameters in your aquarium: Temperature and Total Dissolved Solids (TDS). While temperature is critical for your fish's health, TDS acts as a powerful early-warning indicator for overall water purity and waste buildup.

Is the system complicated to set up?

No, quite the opposite. We designed it to be a true "plug-and-play" experience. You unpack it, place the sensor in the water, plug in the power, and connect it to the app in under 60 seconds. No technical skills are needed.

Is the enclosure durable and waterproof?

Yes. The enclosure is built from industrial-grade SLS Nylon, making it incredibly tough, heat-resistant, and weatherproof. It is professionally sealed to protect the sensitive electronics inside from splashes, making it a robust, all-weather tool built to last.

What types of aquariums is it suitable for?

The Aquaware Starter Kit is perfect for all freshwater aquariums and ponds. A special "Aquaware Marine" version with dedicated sensors for saltwater and reef tanks is a high priority on our future roadmap.

Do I need a subscription to use the device?

No. Every Aquaware kit comes with the Aquaware Basic app, which is free for life. This includes 24/7 real-time monitoring, a 7-day data history, and all critical safety alerts. We believe safety shouldn't be a luxury.

What are the benefits of the "Pro" subscription?

The optional Aquaware Pro subscription unlocks the full power of our AI. It's for aquarists who don't just want to react, but want to predict. It includes features like proactive AI warnings, AI health reports, and much more.

When does the Kickstarter campaign launch?

The date is not yet set but everyone on our email list will be the first to know the exact moment we go live

Why are you launching on Kickstarter?

As a young, self-funded startup, we need the support of the community to finance the first large and costly production run (especially for the high-quality enclosures and sensors).

Kickstarter allows us to bring this product to life without taking on debt or outside investors.

Do I get an advantage as a VIP email subscriber?

Yes, absolutely! Everyone on our official launch list gets guaranteed access to the heavily limited "Founder's Price" and "Super Early Bird" deals with the highest discounts. These will likely sell out in the first few hours.

Who is behind Aquaware?

Aquaware was developed by me, Robert Kessler, an AI Master's student from Ingolstadt, Germany, and a passionate aquarist. The project was born from my university research and a personal mission to make fishkeeping safer and more data-driven. It was recently awarded the Ingolstadt Founder's Prize 2025.

How We Care for the Environment 🌍💙

Carbon-Neutral Shipping with DHL GoGreen

We ship all our products exclusively with DHL GoGreen, ensuring that every order is delivered in a climate-friendly way. By offsetting CO₂ emissions, we help protect the planet with every package sent.

Plastic-Free Packaging & Filling Materials

We care about reducing waste! Our packaging is 100% plastic-free, using only biodegradable or recyclable materials. No unnecessary plastic, just eco-conscious packaging that protects your kit and the environment.

Digital Manuals – Less Waste, More Convenience

Instead of printing bulky manuals, we provide an easy-to-access digital guide. This way, you get all the instructions you need while helping save trees and reducing waste. No more throwing away endless paper pages!

Sustainable PLA Filament for 3D-Printed Parts

Our enclosures and components are 3D-printed using PLA, an eco-friendly, biodegradable material made from renewable resources like corn starch. PLA is a sustainable alternative to traditional plastics and has a lower carbon footprint compared to many other filaments.

💡 Note: While PLA is industrially compostable, it requires specific conditions to fully break down. If you no longer need your enclosure, we recommend recycling or repurposing it for DIY projects!

Energy-Efficient Technology

At Aquaware, we prioritize sustainability, not just in packaging but also in how our devices operate. Our Arduino ESP microcontrollers and sensors are designed to be ultra energy-efficient, ensuring minimal power consumption while delivering accurate water quality data.

🔽 How Much Power Does It Use?
Our ESP32 microcontroller consumes approximately 0.08W (80mW) when actively transmitting data and even less in standby mode. The sensors themselves have very low energy draw, with the temperature, TDS, and turbidity sensors consuming only a few milliwatts each.

🔽 What Does That Mean for Your Energy Bill?
If your kit runs 24/7 for an entire month, it would consume roughly:
🟢 57.6Wh per month (0.08W x 24h x 30 days)
🟢 At an average electricity cost of €0.30 per kWh, that’s less than €0.02 per month!

This means you can monitor your water quality continuously with nearly zero impact on your electricity bill – and without unnecessary energy waste.

Got More Ideas?

We’re always looking for new ways to improve sustainability. Do you have ideas on how we can make Aquaware even more eco-friendly? We'd love to hear from you!
